
Joseph Thomson is an associate portfolio manager and dealing representative at Tactex Asset Management. He provides portfolio management and advisory services to individual and institutional investors. He also raises capital via private placements for small-cap issuers and provides related advisory services.
Prior to joining Tactex he was an executive, portfolio manager, and proprietary trader at two IIROC dealers. Mr. Thomson’s career in the securities industry began in Chicago in 1997. He worked as an upstairs market maker and proprietary trader of equity derivatives (options, futures, cash settled options). He later worked in similar roles in Philadelphia and Dublin, Ireland. Later in Ireland he was the director of the European trading desk of a medium sized NYC based equity derivatives trading firm.
In 2009 he returned to Canada to help start an IIROC dealer focused on providing investment banking services to small-cap listed companies. He later left to found another IIROC dealer on behalf of an Ontario financial institution. This dealer engaged in proprietary trading, portfolio management, created proprietary products and had a focus on credit markets.
Mr. Thomson graduated from Bishop’s University in 1996 with a BA in Political Studies and Economics. In 1998 he received an MSc in Financial Markets & Trading from the Illinois Institute of Technology. While working in Dublin he completed an MBA from the Smurfit Graduate School of Business at University College Dublin in 2005. He also completed the International Fixed Income & Derivatives Certificate from the International Capital Markets Association as well numerous courses offered by the Canadian Securities Institute, FINRA, and other industry education providers.
